Certificate IV in School Based Education Support reflects the role of workers who assist teachers and support student learning in a range of classroom settings under the guidance of a teacher or other educational professional. At this level, workers may be involved in facilitation of learning for a range of instructional groupings, including for those students in need of additional support. In these roles, the education support worker sources and analyses information from diverse sources, may work with limited direct supervision and could provide guidance to other workers.

Education support workers work mainly with students in classroom settings in primary or secondary schools, as defined by State/Territory legislation.

To achieve this Certificate IV CHC40221, the individual must have completed a total of least 100 hours of work in a classroom environment catering to primary or secondary school students, within at least one school in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.

Course Structure

Total Units of Competency:

The CHC40221 Certificate IV in School-Based Education Support requires the completion of the following 17 units including (13 core & 4 elective units)

Pre-requisites

There are no pre-requisites for this qualification.

Placement Arrangements

This course requires students to complete a minimum of 100 hours of work placement. Students are required to find their own practical placement, however, Angel Institute will provide assistance and support where needed. Placement will be completed under the supervision of the centre’s supervisor. Work placement assessment task needs to be completed for each unit which has a placement component.

Training Arrangements

Class sessions are planned once a week to ensure that you have a mixture of practical and theoretical components and those classes cater to a wide variety of learning styles. Additionally, workplace practices and environments will be regularly simulated and used to conduct skills-based assessments in accordance with unit requirements.

Homework tasks may include research, readings from related textbooks, and continuing to work on assessment tasks.

Assessment Arrangements

Assessment will be conducted individually. You will be provided with a Student Assessment Booklet for each unit of competency/cluster/topic which includes:

  • A full description of all assessment tasks for the unit of competency
  • Assessment instructions for each unit of competency
  • Assessment resources for each unit of competency
  • Details about when assessment will occur

IT Specifications:

You need a computer or device with at least 8GB of RAM and a processor running at 1.5GHz or faster.

Ensure a stable connection with a minimum download speed of 2MBPS and an upload speed of 0.5MBPS.

You should have Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and a PDF reader like Adobe Acrobat installed.

Your operating system should be Microsoft Windows 8 or newer, or Mac OS version 10 or newer.

Entry Requirements

  • Prospective students are must be at least 18 years of age
  • To assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, Angel Institute will conduct a Pre-Training Review
  • Required to complete the Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment, administered by and to the satisfaction of Angel Institute
